I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree I just want you for my own More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true oh All I want for Christmas is you
I don't want a lot for Christmas There is just one thing I need, and I
Don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know Make my wish come true All I want for Christmas is you
I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow, and I
I just wanna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake
To hear those magic reindeer click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Oh, Baby all I want for Christmas is you
Every time I am more
convinced that differences enrich us. Especially if we make reference
to the cultural field. In this particular case, I love the vision
that has Giles Peterson as he through music has been able to discover the
richness of many cultures and also enhance what sometimes goes
unnoticed for many of us.
Have you ever tried to say a tongue twister in English? At least for me it's really difficult; but what are tongue twisters? 'Tongue twisters are phrases or sentences that often uses the same sound again and again. You must repeat them as quickly as possible whilst still making sure you are speaking clearly (...) Tongue twisters are word games which are fantastic to improve our pronunciation when speaking English'. Can you say this sentence?
I thought I thought of thinking of thanking you.
So why are tongue twisters useful for your pronunciation practice? Aren't they just silly sentences without any purpose?
Really, they are silly, but the repetition of the same sound is incredibly useful. When you exercise the same pronunciation muscles again and again, you are training them to get stronger and use that sound naturally.
Perhaps because the
death surrounds my family, I can't help thinking about what really
important is, I think about friendship, about good friends, about
family, about all those good and bad moments that have made us just
the way we are nowadays.
Without a doubt, time
passes and will continue to pass, but the truth is that although
apparently, it takes what we most want, we will have the memory.
Maria Bethania, is one of those memories that will accompany me
eternally, through her music I come to mind a whole happy and
grateful childhood with Life ....
Maybe
the most tangible evidence of change in our lives is the passage
of time. As time goes by, our perception of time is
transformed; from being quantified it becomes qualified. In this
sense, little by little and more often, we look back to re-live
happy and/or pleasant experiences; and of course the opposite
situation, we avoid reminiscing about those not too pleasant moments.
Without
a doubt, one of the first good memories that come to mind, are the
weekends, when my dad was more often at home as his work schedule
gave him a respite to play with my brothers and me. I remember that
music as well as radio have been the inseparable companions of my
house because of my father. Through music, the rest of the family
could deduce the mood my dad was in.
Likewise,
I think that my fondness for mystery and suspense is largely due to
my dad, because while my mother prepared dinner, and my father would
iron the school uniforms, my brothers and I would sit in the middle
of the living room to play in the company of radio serials - Kaliman
& The Atlántis or The mysterious cases of Sherlock Holmes,
which were my favorites.
That
is when time can
play a dirty trick on us. Although our memories remain intact in us,
obviously time
will be responsible for transforming our lives, and of course, we
will have a coin with two realities. On the one hand we remain in
our memories and on the other hand, we will have the evidence of
ourselves in the present.
Every
time I return to visit my country, my family, my home and my
friends, I see how the life I was once part of has changed. The city
has a different face, perhaps because the technology is more present
than ever. My house has a new layout, color and decoration; my
friends are going grey, or they have gained or lost some weight.
These changes are even expected and the astonishment is not shocking
for me.
However,
in this last trip, when I saw my father the passage of time became
more evident. That man of strong and indomitable character, that
man who has a peculiar mood, the lover of the tangos, the fanatic of
good football .. That man who looked like an oak, but who now against
his will shows all the fragility typical of his age.
I
believe that I had never seen in his eyes the helplessness of
dependence, I believe that I had never seen in him the look of
renunciation of the things that he loved, and sadly I think I will
never be able to see in his eyes the acceptance that time has
changed him.
In this video, you can watch an amusing situacion. At the same time, you could analyse of a fun way people's behavior when they aren't talking in their own mother tongue . . . This video can be a little bit exaggerated. However, when someone is really nervous, anxious or contrary shows excessive self-assurance in speaking test, could produce as a result a comical experience . In fact, all things could be possible in the speaking tests...;) Poor teachers!!!!
Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there
There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking, but she doesn't know he's there
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there ...
This might be one of my
favourite photos …. My mum with my little
daughter, I call them two hearts connected by an
inmense love.
I took the
photo when my baby was born in the Spring of 2011, at the Principe de
Asturias Hospital. The moment, I saw this litlle angel, I
felt that I was the happiest person in the world. Fortunately for us,
my baby didn't have any problems during the pregnancy or the birth.
However, the actual birth took quite a long time.
That day, I
was doubly happy, since my mother could share this event with my
Spanish family and me. I remember that some months before the birth,
I had been so worried, because my mum needed a visa to come to Spain,
and this process is and was so hard, but finally, she could be with
us.
When I
see this photo, I recall how the nurse brought my baby after
cleaning her and all my Spanish family began to take photos of
Laura, my baby who was like a famous pop star. Then my mum asked me
if she could hold the baby, and obviously I said she could. The
moment my mum saw my baby's face, her own face change completely. I
had never seen my mother with that face, my mum gave me a sweet
cuddle and she couldn't avoid smiling. Maybe in this moment I loved
her more (if
it is posible), so I understood what she
had done for me throughout her life; then I thought I was a lucky
person because I had an amazing mother and now I had a fantastic
daughter!
My mum is
the most special person that I've ever known for many reasons. The
first one, she always has positive things to say to people, even if
these people are impolite. I can hardly remember a time when she was
annoyed or angry with other people. Normally, she is a
even-tempered. In fact her smile is her best feature. At the same
time, she has an enormous ability to make new friends.
Another
reason why I admire her is that she has never stopped working. She
is a teacher and although she is retired, she always wants to teach
someone. Nowadays, she is a volunteer in a state school in La Paz
city. She loves working with children with learning difficulties.
Sometimes, I think that she has this kind of energy because she gives
energy to and takes positive energy from these children.
For these
reasons I keep this photo in a special place in my home, so when I
look at it I remember that awesome time that I had with them.
This week in my English class, we have talked about different skills, which we should try to acquire in a competitive society. Then, I remembered an awesome film: ¨ The Method", directed by Marcelo Piñeyro.
Through this thrilling film, we can reflect on different complex topics, such as: what current society demands of the professional people, what we should understand by a successful person/professional, what we should understand by a cooperative & competitive attitude, also we could think if the equal opportunities between women and men professionals is a reality or if it is only a fiction, among other topics.
Finally, with this film, I can't avoid wondering if our capacities, habilities, qualities and so on, are above of our fears and limitations.
I'm so happy, because I'm having good days in La Paz - my home!!!!! Since I'm here, I can't avoid smiling and the same time I can't avoid remembering good times here. I don't have much time to visit or to catch up with my Bolivian family, with my friends, with my old good classemates, etc etc and etc.
The last exciting experience that I had here, was the mesmerazing views of the city from the cable car... wow it's simply fantastic!!!!
Don't go changing, to try and please me You never let me down before Don't imagine you're too familiar And I don't see you anymore I wouldn't leave you in times of trouble We never could have come this far I took the good times, I'll take the bad times I'll take you just the way you are Don't go trying some new fashion Don't change the color of your hair You always have my unspoken passion Although I might not seem to care
I don't want clever conversation I never want to work that hard I just want someone that I can talk to I want you just the way you are. I need to know that you will always be The same old someone that I knew What will it take till you believe in me The way that I believe in you. I said I love you and that's forever And this I promise from the heart I just want someone that I can talk to I want you just the way you are.
I'm astonished after listening to her and how she has lived since 1998 ...I know that nobody is perfect, but at the same time, I can't avoid wondering why people are especially cruel with others' mistakes.
The key day is getting closer :) and surprisingly, I'm at peace with myself !!! This course was really different for me. What with one thing and another, I've discovered one more time, how our attitude not only can be a relevant factor to learn much better but also it could be a handicap in the learning process.
In this sense, as well as the attitude, we should have a motivation to reach our target. This sounds fantastic, but many times we will to face multiple drawbacks, for instance, lack of time, making slow progress, unattractive materials, inefficient study strategies and so on.
In this course I realized that if I wanted to improve my English skills, it was more logical to talk with a native. Luckily for me, I met a native English with whom I've learned many useful things, I've understood many of my grammatical errors, but the most important thing is that at this time I've learned to enjoy speaking, writing, listening and reading in English.
We were able to share our culture through English. He has astonished me meet someone so interested in a seemingly poor country like Bolivia. I felt so good and confidence talking and being understood by a native.
For this reason, probably tomorrow if I pass the English tests, I will be so thrilled. Notwithstanding, if I don't pass the exam, this year will be worth !!!! Don't get me wrong, of course I would like to pass the test. However, I believe that's not the most important thing, at least for me, because we never stop learning .... of course, it will happen only if we want.
Thanks so much my English friend and at the same time, thanks so much for your two special gifts, I'm enjoying both a lot!!!...
Yesterday evening, in my English class, we were reading and speaking about some tips to face it job interviews and I've thought that this link could be useful to you.
She is Vero Pérez a Bolivian singer, and from my point of view this song is one of the best version of "Autumn Leaves" that I've ever listened to....enjoy it !
"Autumn Leaves"
The falling leaves
Drift by my window
The falling leaves
Of red and gold
I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sunburned hands
I used to hold
Since you went away
The days grow long
And soon I'll hear
Old winter's song
But I miss you most of all
My darling
When autumn leaves
Start to fall
Since you went away
The days grow long
And soon I'll hear
Old winter's song
But I miss you most of all
My darling
When autumn leaves
Start to fall
I love to get lost in the Sherlock Homes' novels, so these not only are gripping but also these novels have shrewd plots. Yet, who is really Sherlock Holmes?
Learning a language can be a great challenge, especially when someone tries to go into details. In this sense, I find very useful to learn Idioms, but what is that? According to dictionary a Idiom is: 'A group of words whose meaning is different from the meanings of the individual words'. For example: 'Let the cat out of the bag' it means to tell a secret by mistake.
In class we were working with some short stories and it was a fantastic exercise to practise speaking skills, and for this reason I have a challenge for you, I would like you to look for a idiom which summarize one of these short stories. Are you ready?
At one time Helen Hippo
was quite hoity-toity. In fact, all the time she only wanted
to hear praise about her appereance. At the beginning, this task
woudn't requiere too much effort for her friends, because it was clear
that Helen Hippo was dazzlingly beautiful. Yet little by
little, her friends were trying to stay away from her, so her beauty
started to belie her narcissistic attitude.
Then she thought that she
had lost her beauty; for this reason she was brooding over
things that she should do to get her beauty back. The following day,
Helen Hippo started to get in trim. Helen Hippo worked out to
such a point she was worn out. The other animals couldn't understand
what she was doing, although there was a method in her madness.
Oddly enough, her friends
were scathing with her foolish demeanor. They
couldn't recognize her any more, because Helen Hippo's beauty was
lacklustre. Predictably, Helen Hippo ended up hearing these
inappropriate comments. She felt giddy
and ran away. It was a real hassle for her, so who was she really? So she
asked herself, 'Am I who I used to be, or am I the hippo I am now?
Helen
Hippo decided to look for answers, and as a result, she wandered
about from pillar to post but
nobody knew how to help her. Until one day, she bumped into
an old friend, Moe Mouse. Helen Hippo told him what had happened.
Then, after gobbling
a piece of cheese, he told her: 'You
are what you were and you are what you are now too'.
Helen Hippo was astonished, then she asked him: how
can I be the same hippo?.
Moe Mouse told her: 'You'd
better consider the hard trip that you have done, and in the
origin of your escape, only in that way are you able to understand
what has happend to you'.
At that moment, Helen Hippo realized that she had been pretty boastful
with everybody and she felt ashamed and guilty of her attitude.
Then
Moe Mouse added: What's done is done! ….and
asked her:Are you
prepared to go out on a limb?
She nodded, and Moe Mouse said: the
answer that you are looking for is simple....you
have to lose and learn from mistakes to know who you really are.
We are our appearance but we are also our character. Therefore, your task
during your whole life will be to discover the harmony between
both. Yet don't forget that the beauty is
only skin deep!
It
was a great lesson, I'll never forget this' said
Helen Hippo, She
came to terms with
her error and decided to come back to her home to apologize to her
friends. They were finally so lenient
with her and discovered her genuine beauty.
In
the Aymara culture, it is believed that the universe is formed by
three enormous dimensions: The Alax
Pacha
(which means the heavenly world), which is composed of the Sun, the
Moon, thunder and old wise people. The next dimension is named
Manqha
Pacha
(which means the sinister world). It is believed that, it is in this
dimension where the evil spirits are now but it
hasn't always been like that, as they were also present in the other
two.
Finally,
the third dimension is named Aka
Pacha or Pachamama
(which means literally, “Mother Earth”). She is the safe-keeper
of the Earth, so she gives life. Besides, she is responsible for
communicating the previous levels with one another. For this reason,
it is said that she receives gifts from the Alax Pacha, for example,
the rain, snow, sunshine, and so on. Likewise, she also receives some
catastrophes, for instance, earthquakes, plagues, tsunamis, droughts,
etc.
In the Aymara world, it is
thought that the Alax Pacha and the Manqha Pacha, are always
fighting. Consequently, they are against each other, all the time,
although The Pachamama tries to give peace to the universe. To
achieve this, one day a year, The Pachamama opens the doors of
these three worlds, and she allows the good & evil, the good
spirits and bad spirits to be mixed with the humans.
This
day is known as 'All
Saints' Day'.
It is celebrated on the first of November. Then, it is said that at
twelve o'clock, the doors are opened for everybody who had passed
away and also for all the spirits. Each one of which decides if
they go up or go down to The Aka Pacha.
This trip is supposed to be made
by means of a stair made of bread or also it could be made riding
over a horse made of bread too.
All people who have a relative
that has passed away prepare a special table with some of the
favourite fruit, sweets, dishes, cakes, biscuits and drinks that the
dead person had enjoyed when he or she was still alive.
The
most common food in the tables are t'anta
wawas
(which means boys made of bread). These are especially made when a
family member has passed away. Then, if this person was a girl or
boy, a woman or man, old or young, the family must wear a mask of
the t'anta
wawas to
symbolize the dead person.
In this special ritual, the
“chicha morada” can not be forgotten. It is a typical drink on
'All Saints' Day', which has been made with purple corn. Native
people say that to prepare it, you only have to boil this kind of
corn with some pieces of pineapple, cinnamon branch and some orange
peel for a half and hour with a little sugar.
The
following day, relatives must say goodbye to all the spirits, so
that these spirits
can go back to their worlds. It is believed that at exactly twelve
o'clock the worlds' doors are closed
until the next year.
In
the Aymara culture, it is a well-known fact that if someone dies on
this day, she or he will be able to choose in which world her or his
ajayu
(which means soul) willlive.
Shakespeare is propably the most famous playwright in the world. However, many times I'm not able to decide which book I should read. Fortunately, I've found a useful flowchart to help me choose one. According to this flowchart my book would be ' King Lear', so get on with it!!!
